The ADM Tiger baseball team continued to hit the ball well garnering 8 hits in last night’s contest against Van Meter, marking the fifth consecutive game with at least 7 hits or more for the Tigers. Unfortunately for ADM however, despite the solid hitting night, they were unable to muster enough runs to beat Van Meter loosing by the final score of 9-4.
The Bulldogs would start things off in the second inning and never look back posting up two runs via two walks and two RBI singles to take a 2-0 early. The Tigers would cut that lead in half scoring one in the top of the fourth off an RBI single by Gage Fuller.
Van Meter would tack on more runs to answer in the bottom of the fourth in a big way posting up a 5 run inning. Those five runs came via just three hits and where accompanied by two walks and two errors as the Bulldogs jumped ahead to a 7-1 lead heading into the fifth inning.
The Tigers would storm back in the sixth inning attempting a late game rally as they posted three runs in their top half of the inning. Gage Fuller would drive in his second run of the game as part of a nice 2-3 night at the plate. Chase Ritchie’s fielders choice plated home one run along with a single from Trey Volz decreasing the Van Meter lead to a 7-4 ball game.
The Bulldogs would answer right back in their half of the sixth cushioning their lead with two RBI singles to cushion the lead and bringing the score up to a 9-4 ball game. It would then be up to the heart of the ADM order to finish off the rally but a 1-2-3 inning would quickly take a comeback chance out of the picture and end the game for the Tigers falling by the final tally of 9-4.
Nick Dufoe started things off on the mound for the Tigers going 3 and a 1/3 innings giving up 5 earned runs, walking 4, and striking out one batter in the process. Dalton Hews would come in relief striking out two while walking just one; and would be credited with 2 earned runs. Kyle Schmitt would pick up the win in the contest for Van Meter tossing just over 5 innings giving up 7 hits, just one earned run, and striking out one.
