The Guthrie County board of Supervisors met Thursday.
The Board met with County Sanitarian Stephen Patterson to discuss transfer station policies to charge a fee for accepting large electronics, and establishing a minimum interest fee and a late charge.
The Board voted to charge $.35 per pound on each pound over 50 pounds for all electronics except televisions and computer monitors. For monitors and tv’s the transfer station charges $10 for screens less than 19 inches, $15 for screens 20-36 inches, and $20 for screens larger than 36 inches.
Additionally, the Board voted to maintain a 1.5% interest rate on collections and add a five-dollar monthly late charge. County Sanitarian Stephen Patterson thinks the new late charge will act as more of a deterrent than anything. “If you don’t pay this bill by the end of the month, then there’s going to be a five dollar late fee added on to the interest. I think most people will go home, write out the check and put it in the mail, because they’ll have the bill. I don’t think the late fee will crop up very much.”
Patterson hopes keeping relatively affordable rates will encourage residents to continue recycling their old electronics.
