Drive_Sober_CMYKThe Guthrie County Sheriff’s office is preparing for a drive sober or get pulled over enforcement campaign from July 1st-5th.

The special Traffic Enforcement Project (sTEP) is occurring because traditionally Independence Day weekend is a dangerous one to be on the road. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports 164 people were killed due to drunk driving accidents over the three-day Independence Day Weekend last year, though none of those deaths were in Iowa.

As part of the enforcement measure, officers remind motorists to buckle up, not speed and plan for an alternative ride home if they’ve been drinking.
