Four people were hurt, including a Scranton man, in a two vehicle accident Wednesday in Greene County.
According to the Iowa State Patrol around 11:30am, the Greene County Sheriff’s office, Greene County Emergency Medical Services, Jefferson Fire Department and Churdan Rescue responded to a crash on the Highway 30 bridge between Jefferson and Scranton.
A 2002 Ford F-250 pickup was traveling east on the highway when a tire blew out. The driver, 72 year-old Donald Egan of Scranton, crossed the centerline into the eastbound lane and struck a 2016 Ford Escape head-on that was driven by 52 year-old Dr. Debra Thompson of Alden. Thompson tried to avoid the collision by veering into the north shoulder of the highway. Both vehicles came to rest on the north shoulder.
Egan suffered minor injuries. Thompson had a serious ankle injury and her passengers, 62 year-old Dr. Donald Skinner Jr. of Ames had a serious injury to the ribs and 40 year-old Dr. Doug Lake also of Ames suffered serious injuries to his hip and wrist. Everyone, except for Dr. Lake, were taken to Greene County Medical Center, while Dr. Lake went to Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames for treatment. All were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident and airbags did deploy in both vehicles.
Iowa State Patrol is in charge of the investigation.
