Some children in Greene County will get even more holiday cheer with the second annual Shop With A Cop program.

A $2,000 anonymous donation was recently made to the Greene County Peace Officers Association for Shop With A Cop. In its inaugural year in 2015, ten Greene County youth were each given $100 to purchase gifts for their families and themselves. Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse says it’s great to get donations like this for a worthy cause.

“I think it is totally awesome that this person in our community has done numerous, numerous things in the past to help the community. But again, this year has chosen to help us with Shop With A Cop and doubled the donation from last year which will allow us to help even more kids. We are so thankful to him for the donation.”

Chief Deputy Jack Williams describes how he sees the program growing in future years.

“We’d like to get to where we have 20 to 25 kids that we’re able to provide the Shop With A Cop to. We really don’t have the resources within the county to do much more than that. But we hope to one day to be able to involve EMS and the fire departments.”

Donations are still being accepted until November at the law enforcement center in Jefferson. Checks can be made payable to the Greene County Peace Officers Association-Shop With A Cop.
