Three area law enforcement agencies responded to a fight in the East Perry Plaza late Sunday.
According to Detective Sergeant Jerome Hill, Perry Police were dispatched to a fight in progress at 1000 26th Street, outside the PACE event center, around 11:45pm.
When officers arrived they found two male subjects on the ground in the parking lot. Once they were able to separate the two individuals they found out one of the subjects involved in the altercation had already left the scene. As police were dealing with the other male involved, the suspect became resistant towards officers. A Taser was used to take control of the situation and 25 year-old Douglas Rivas-Melandez of Perry was taken into custody and transported to the Dallas County Hospital to be checked for minor injuries sustained from the initial fight. Officers also received minor injuries while making the arrest.
Rivas-Melendez is charged with Public Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct and Interference with Official Acts Causing Injury. He was booked into the Dallas County jail where he is being held on a $2,000 bond.
Additionally, three teens were also found to be in possession of alcohol. Two females, ages 15 and 16, were charged with Minor in Possession of Alcohol and an 18 year-old was charged with Possession of Alcohol by a Person Under Legal Age.
The incident remains under investigation by the Perry Police Department, who was assisted on scene by the Dallas and Boone county sheriff’s offices.
