The ADM Tiger boys soccer team is officially heading back to the soccer promise land!
Saturday marked the championship game of the class 2A substate 6 tournament between the ADM Tigers and the Newton Cardinals in a winner take all match up for the right to head to state. Both the Tigers and the Cardinals were fresh off of thrilling overtime victories against two top ranked opponents. Newton defeated 11th ranked Winterset while ADM defeated 5th ranked Dallas Center-Grimes for the right to play to earn a spot in the state tournament.
Saturday’s substate final match continued the streak of postseason thrillers taking all of 75 minutes worth of game action to witness the first and only goal of the game. That goal would go to the ADM Tigers with 5 minutes remaining, and they would hold on to that lead for the 1-0 win as they are crowned class 2A substate 6 champions and more importantly, a state qualifier.
This will be the third trip in 4 years for coach Bill Shields and his Tiger soccer team. With their ticket punched ADM (17-4) will enter the hallowed grounds of the state tournament as the 4th seed and will be matched up against the fifth seed in Storm Lake (17-1). That match up will be held this Thursday at the James Cownie Soccer Complex on field number 7, with the start time set for 2:35 pm.
