The Greene County baseball and softball teams are scheduled to host CMB (Baxter) tonight in Jefferson. Both CMB teams are 2-0 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play while the softball Rams are 1-1 and the baseball Rams are 0-1. KG98 is scheduled to broadcast the varsity softball game tonight with coverage starting around 7:15 p.m., weather permitting.

In softball, the Rams are playing at home for the third time in as many games this season. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team won 5-4 on Monday over PCM (Monroe), then lost to Gilbert on Tuesday night, 13-10. Freshman Jenna Beyers already has two doubles and a triple to her credit and junior Hannah Promes hit a three-run homer on opening night. Seniors Sydney Koch and Carleigh Paup missed the Gilbert game, but are scheduled to play tonight. They are the only seniors on the team and the only two starters remaining from the teams that each finished third in Class 3A in the last two State tournaments. CMB has softball wins over Gilbert, 11-0, and Nevada, 11-1.

In baseball, the Rams lost to PCM on Monday night in the only game they’ve played. CMB has victories over Gilbert, 5-4, and Nevada, 5-1. Pitching prospect Brady Stover struck out 17 Cubs in his season pitching debut on Wednesday, so the Rams won’t be facing the Raiders’ ace tonight.
