Iowa’s Third District United States Congressman, David Young, visited the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office Friday afternoon.

Young was given a tour of the jail and delivered an inspirational message to inmates looking to improve their lives.

Additionally, Young had a discussion with deputies about illegal drugs being an increasing problem in the County and throughout the Third District.

Young tells Raccoon Valley Radio that cracking down on illegal drug usage and getting mental healthcare for inmates are often-discussed topics in Congress.

“First of all, our Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office does a great job. They love their community, they love the people and they take great care of their inmates. Plus, they understand the needs of the inmates in terms of mental health services, the drug problems going on right now, and of course those are issues we’re talking about right now in Washington D.C. I hear about mental health services everywhere I go in the District, and also about drug problems. We’re working on that and acting on those things in the House and Senate, and with the President in hoping we can find solutions in a bipartisan way.”

The visit was part of Young’s initiative to visit each of the 13 counties in his District on a monthly basis.
