Early Thursday morning storms caused damage in several areas in Jefferson.
Public Works Director Dave Morlan says the worst reported damage was in the 700 block of South Maple where an entire tree fell on the roofs of two houses and a fallen tree branch landed on a car in the 200 block of South Oak Street. He points out that all department crews, including City staff, have been busy removing several more trees that broke off due to the strong winds from the storms, as well as cutting up broken tree branches and limbs along the streets.
Work started at about 3:45am, when Streets Superintendent Dave Teeples put up barricades to remove fallen tree branches right after the storm passed through Jefferson. Crews then started again at 7am and Morlan believes they will be working the majority of the day to remove limbs and other brush.
He asks that homeowners take their tree piles to the yard waste dump site at Daubendiek Park where there is a tree pile on the north end. Otherwise, cut up the limbs and stack the brush piles neatly by the curbside and City crews will eventually pick those items up.
