jefferson welcomeNow that there’s been substantial rainfall and temperatures are getting hotter, mosquitoes will be more prevalent.

The City of Jefferson is starting their procedures to control the mosquito population this summer. Public Works Director Dave Morlan says crews will be spraying the town tonight. A pickup with a spraying agent will be going throughout the town this evening for three to four hours before dusk. The equipment they use makes a buzzing sound so residents know when they are coming. Morlan points out that the spray they use isn’t harmful to people or animals, but it does have an odor.

The City also uses mosquito repellent briquettes in areas where there is standing water on the  outer City limits.

Morlan requests that if anyone has a bucket or any other kind of container that holds water could be dumped out, it will help to prevent mosquitoes.

The City will continue to spray for mosquitoes every Tuesday and Thursday evenings, weather permitting.
