Did you know, rear seat passengers are three times more likely to die in a crash if they are unbuckled?
In 2014, nearly 9,400 people in the U.S. lost their lives as a result of not wearing their seat belt. The state compliance rate for seatbelts is one of the best in the nation at 93 percent but still 118 people killed in a crash in 2014 were not buckled.
In an effort to try and reduce those numbers, law enforcement will be out in force over the next two weeks. The Perry Police Department is participating in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Click It or Ticket mobilization through June 6th. The efforts focus on seat belt violators 24/7 but extra enforcement will be in place during the nighttime hours of 6pm to 6am.
As always, everyone regardless of where they are sitting in the vehicle is urged to make sure their seatbelts are buckled at all times.
