At the beginning of the season, the ADM/Van Meter girls soccer team was still feeling the pain from an earlier post season exit than they would have liked last season giving them extra hunger to get back to the state tournament this year.
The Lady Tigers have certainly not lost a beat from last season, notching a 13 game winning streak to start this season while yielding a better record to this point than last season. The ADM/Van Meter girls soccer team has undoubtedly come a long way even from the beginning of this season. The Lady Tigers have conquered almost every goal set forth by third year head coach Kelsey Gaffney on the season in their quest for state.
When asked about the progress from the beginning of the season coach Gaffney told Raccoon Valley Radio that she has seen her Lady Tiger team come a long way.
“Honestly a lot (of progress), we’ve been working on the same things over the last few years and I feel like it’s finally clicking. Players are getting a good first touch, connecting their passes, and they’re creating a lot of offensive opportunities. Defensively we’re really solid back there; a lot of good leadership and players with lots of experience,” stated coach Gaffney.
Coach Gaffney also stated how fun it has been to watch her Tiger team grow and improve over the season.
“It’s been a very fun year this year just watching them take everything they learned from practice and translating that into the games and then scoring and having a lot of success,”explained coach Gaffney.
The Lady Tigers are well on their way to redeeming last years regional final loss as they wrap up the regular season on Tuesday against Indianola. As for regional action, it will begin this Thursday, but the Lady Tigers won’t begin their postseason until the following Tuesday when they host second round regional action at Island Park.
