A man responsible for a two vehicle crash that killed a 37 year-old Adel woman last winter has been found guilty of homicide by vehicle, operating while under the influence.
A jury found Justin Krutzinger guilty of the Class B Felony Monday. County Attorney Wayne Reisetter mentioned during Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting that it was a tough case and commended the work of the Dallas County Sheriff’s office, Adel Police Department and Iowa State Patrol.
As reported by Raccoon Valley Radio, then 38 year-old Krutsinger rear ended a vehicle driven by 37 year-old Heidi Lynn Harkrader who was traveling west on US Highway 6 in Adel on February 28, 2015. Both vehicles went into the north ditch, eventually striking a home on South 5th Street. Harkrader was pronounced dead at the scene.
Krutzinger is currently in the Dallas County jail. Sentencing has been set for June 3rd though the conviction carries a mandatory prison term of 25 years, with no possibility of probation. It also comes with a fine of up to $10,000, plus court costs, surcharges and $150,000 in restitution to the victim’s estate.
