A teenage girl was injured in a bike vs vehicle accident Thursday in Jefferson.
Police Chief Mark Clouse says the accident happened after school at 3:26pm by the middle school at the intersection of Elm and Madison streets. A 14 year-old female was riding her bike, from east to west across the highway, in the south crosswalk. A 2013 Buick Lacrosse, that was driven by 86 year-old Louise Harris of Jefferson, entered the intersection, heading outside in the outside lane and hit the teenager. Clouse tells Raccoon Valley Radio that witnesses saw the girl and bike fly eight-feet in the air when the two collided. Temporary stop signs were in place on the highway for an hour after school is out.
The victim had scrapes, but no visible life-threatening injuries. She was taken to the Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Emergency Medical Services for further evaluation.
Harris was cited for failure to yield to pedestrian in crosswalk.
