Paton-Churdan travels to Manson on May 12 for a Class 1A high school track & field coed State Qualifying Meet. The Rockets have not had any female track and field State qualifiers lately, but they’ll have opportunities on Thursday. Freshman Megan Carey leads competitors at Manson in the long jump at 16′ 6″, which ranks ninth overall in 1A. Carey also is third in the 400 meter dash in 1:02.10, which is 17th in the small school class. Also, senior Carleigh Paup enters competition in Manson with the fourth fastest time in the 100 meter hurdles.
No P-C boy is ranked in the top five at Manson.
In 1A, only the winner of an event is guaranteed to qualify for the May 19-20-21 State Coed Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. There are 12 qualifying meets around the state in 1A. The field of 24 is rounded out by the best 12 performances in each event that did not place first.
