Greene County Chamber logoSoon a new smartphone app will be available to find out everything that Greene County has to offer.

Greene County Chamber and Jefferson Matters: Main Street are partnering together to develop an app that shows all the businesses and attractions within the county. Chamber Tourism and Events Coordinator Angie Pedersen and Jefferson Matters volunteer Deb McGinn are contacting businesses for needed information that will be included on their page in the app.

“It’ll have a picture, a short description of your business, a link to the business’s website and Facebook pages, there’s a mapping application within the app so our visitors can find our attractions and businesses. There’s an opportunity for our businesses to put coupons on there.”

The developer is Prosper Walk from Utah that creates the app free for Main Street communities. Pedersen points out that there are only two other such communities in Iowa with a similar app, which are Story City and Hamilton County. She hopes that the app will create more tourism, especially through the Millennials generation.Jefferson Matters

“If you have an app, a tourism app that (can be) shared with people, the information that you have, in a way that they are familiar with-meaning app based-that’s the very, very best way to get the word out.”

Pedersen hopes to launch the app by the end of May or early June.
