As we get closer to the June primary election, there is a contested Republican race for Greene County Supervisor District five.
One of those candidates is incumbent Guy Richardson. He is seeking his fifth term as Supervisor. A lifelong Greene County resident, Richardson’s family’s roots go back to 1894 when his great-grandfather started the company that he now operates, Greene County Abstract.
Before being elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2000, he previously served on the Jefferson City Council. He thought the Board needed to be more proactive and he felt the Supervisors back then had a lot of contention and a negative stigmatism. He serves on the Greene County Development Corporation Executive Board, Bell Tower Community Foundation Board, is the chair for Region XII Local Elected Officials Council, also serves on the Board of Directors for Airport Commission, Region XII Executive Board and Policy Council, Greene County Board of Health, he is the liaison to the Greene County Veteran’s Affairs Commission and County Public Information Officer. He also serves on State of Iowa Human Services Council.
He points out that he’s running for another term because he believes his job as Supervisor isn’t finished yet.
“We’re turning our efforts now that deal with the county’s physical infrastructure, by making sure we begin updates that are needed to the courthouse. We’re involved with the Bell Tower Foundation in improvements and maintenance of the Tower. We’ve also gotten many things with Secondary Roads (Department) that we’re looking at now as far as improving facilities that they operate out of and we need some improvements to the LEC (Law Enforcement Center). We’re sorely short of space down there.”
While Richardson has been on the Board, the County started funding GCDC, helping county departments operate more efficiently and effectively, brought in Louis Dreyfus Commodities plant near Grand Junction, establishing wind farms, making improvements to the Jefferson Municipal Airport, bring in other manufacturers and helped with bringing in Wild Rose.
Fellow Republican candidate Peter Bardole is challenging Richardson in the June 7th primary.
