The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer gave an update to the Board. He said the City will be notified on May 16th if they qualify for the $1 million Community Development Block Grant for the downtown building facade project. All three downtown buildings that the City owns will hopefully get new roofs put on them this summer and the City will find out this week if a proposal to purchase land in the Greene County Development Corporation west business park for a new animal shelter to be built will be approved by GCDC.
The Board then approved the County Recorder’s report of fees for April of $18,424.39.
The Board also discussed a proposed amendment to the 2016 fiscal year budget. Adjustments included $315,072 for gravel, $124,000 through a grant for the Raccoon River Valley Trail crossings project, county employee benefit increases for the Sheriff’s office and $5,000 for increases in inmate costs. The Board set May 31st for the public hearing on the budget amendment.
Information Technology Manager Michelle Fields requested to have the law library and election equipment be moved from the third floor of the courthouse to the first floor and switch places with the magistrate court. The Board gave permission to make the change.
County Engineer Wade Weiss gave his weekly update to the Board. He reported that the road pavement project in Paton was delayed due to rain. A request was made from the Department of Transportation that the County take over a stretch of Highway 144 from Highway 30 north to the county line. The Board gave permission to Weiss to engage in a conversation with the DOT on the details of what the responsibilities would be before a decision was made. There was also a discussion about the former National Guard Armory building with interest from the Greene County School District wanting to purchase the property to store their buses in. Weiss said the County paid $225,000 from GCDC to take ownership of that building to store some of the secondary roads equipment in. He thought to build their own facility by where the secondary roads department is at currently on Pinet Street in Jefferson, would be about $400,000. The Board wanted to further investigate what their needs are if they want to build their own building before a final decision was made.
