Seven members of Raccoon Valley Radio Network’s Severe Weather Action Team provided wall-to-wall coverage to our listeners Monday evening when tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for Guthrie and Greene counties.
The National Weather Service issued the first warning for our coverage area around 6:40pm and our team continued to provide coverage on-air and online until 8:45pm when the warnings were allowed to expire. In addition to rain and up to 60 mile per hour winds, the primary threat through the duration of the storm was the potential for quarter to golfball sized hail.
A tornado warning was also issued around 8:05pm for the northwest portion of Guthrie County as emergency management coordinators confirmed a tornado on the ground.
Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf tells Raccoon Valley Radio that no damage has been reported as of Monday night.
Whenever severe weather threatens Guthrie, Greene or Dallas counties stay tuned to the Raccoon Valley Radio Network.
