The names of the two individuals that were killed in Saturday morning’s crash on the overpass bridge near Grand Junction have been released.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, 36 year-old John Jacob Twombly of Des Moines and 26 year-old Alexander Joseph Sharer of Boone were killed after their 1989 Chevrolet Corvette went through a guard cable rail on the Highway 30 overpass bridge near Grand Junction and rolled down the northside embankment and hitting a tree. Authorities were notified of the crash at 6:30am. The report shows that Sharer was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, but Twombly was not.
Authorities believe alcohol may have been a factor. The vehicle is considered to be a total loss. The bridge was closed for nearly five hours as crews worked to clean up the scene.
The Greene County Sheriff’s office, Greene County Emergency Medical Services, Grand Junction Fire and Rescue and the Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
Iowa State Patrol is in charge of the investigation.
