The Guthrie Center City Council met Monday night.
The Council discussed a revised animal protection and control ordinance, as well as an ordinance to allow All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV’s), Off Road Vehicle’s (ORV’s) and snowmobiles to operate within city limits. The Council took no action on either ordinance and is seeking input from the public on both pieces of legislation. You can read both ordinances attached to this story.
Additionally, the Council discussed a lack of parking downtown. Councilors have heard complaints from business owners that employees and commuters take up too much of the street parking they would like to see available for customers. The Council discussed preliminary plans to implement two-hour parking during business hours but took no action. A letter regarding the proposal will be mailed to all downtown business owners, plus Councilors will discuss parking enforcement with the Sheriff’s office.
Finally, the Council approved a bid of $43,500 to sell the current City Hall at 102 North First Street to Ken Laughery. A public hearing will take place at the May 23rd Council meeting to finalize bid acceptance, plus an additional public hearing will take place that evening for a budget amendment to the fiscal year 2016 budget.
