hiawatha classicThe Hiawatha Classic is coming up this weekend but if you’re not in the mood or not able to ride, you can still support the cause.

Perry Recreation Coordinator Becky Towers says they’re selling raffle tickets through Saturday and there are a variety of prizes available.

“The neat thing about this raffle is you don’t have to be present to win.  So if you don’t want to ride you can still come the day of or beforehand and buy some raffle tickets.  We have some neat prizes.  Some of our bigger ones are a hotel getaway at the (Hotel Pattee), you can win an HD TV, some Betsy Peterson designs she’s going to donate, a free six-month membership to the (McCreary Community Building) which is huge and that’s got to be kind of one of our bigger ones.  There’s also some little ones like gift cards for businesses around town, a Hy-Vee meat bundle and Fareway gift cards.”

All proceeds from the ride and the raffle go to support the local trails including the connector project between Perry and Woodward.

Perry Chamber Executive Director Bob Wilson also encourages everyone, whether you ride or not, to join them for an afternoon of fun.

“Between 12pm and three there will be lunch at the Hotel Pattee.  Soumas Court will also have a DJ kind of setting the mood and the tones there.  So everyone is welcome, come down and hang out, it’s a great little area. There will be drink specials that afternoon, not only for rides but non-riders as well.”

Raffle tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20.  They’re available at the recreation center, chamber office and Raccoon River Valley Bicycle Company.
