Have you noticed those primitive yellow signs downtown Perry?
They’ve been put up as part of a grassroots effort to raise funds to continue the downtown flower project.
Last year the City of Perry helped finance the project but now it’s up to private donations, grants and volunteers to help keep it going.
“Dave Wright, a Chamber Board member, has once again kind of taken on this challenge of getting flowers downtown in the boulevard and and the planters, everywhere he can put a flower, the fireman’s tribute down there at Warford and 1st Street as well, so what we’re trying to do is beautify downtown.”
That’s Bob Wilson with the Perry Chamber who helped fund the project in 2015 through a hotel/motel tax grant. He says this year there are a few ways people can help.
“We would appreciate some donations. We’ve had people walk in and throw us a few bills here and there, and that’s greatly appreciated. Every little bit helps so if you are interested and want to help out monetarily that’s great. Or else perhaps getting your hands in the dirt, we will have a set time for us to do that in the middle of May.”
The group is looking to raise $2,500 to plant red and white petunias in the fireman’s monument and pink and white petunias in the boulevards and planters.
Anyone who would like to donate to the project can do so at the Chamber office or by mailing a check to the Chamber office, in care of the Flower Project, at 1102 Willis Avenue.
