High school golf teams playing 18 holes at the Jefferson Community Golf Course is rare, but a golfer shooting two under par 70 is even more unusual. That’s what sophomore Elijah Block did as the Greene County High School boys’ golf team won a triangular 18-holes meet on Saturday over Carlisle and Glidden-Ralston. Block dropped in an eagle on his 18th hole (number nine) to shoot 70, or two under par. Neither current Coach Dave Destival and former longtime coach John Rowland could recall the last time any high schooler, let alone a Ram, shot such a low score.

The Greene County team shot 365 with Carlisle at 377 and G-R at 379.

Block was medalist by 17 strokes with G-R’s Sam Brant the runner-up at 87. Other Greene County scores counting in the team total were 95 from Isaiah Yoder, 99 by Britton Gallagher, and 101 for both Chase Juergensen and Bryce Burkhardt.

The event was played under sunny skies, temperatures in the 60s and 70s and some wind.

The Greene County boys are scheduled to host Ft. Dodge St. Edmond today at 4 p.m. at the Lakeside Golf Course northwest of Grand Junction. The girls play St. Edmond at Ft. Dodge today at 4 p.m.
