The 2016 Greene County Impact Award Winner was recently announced.

Rippey resident Mary Weaver is this year’s recipient. The award honors those who have made a difference in Greene County with social, educational or cultural contributions.  The award recognizes those who make a difference throughout the whole county.

Weaver has been an instrumental volunteer in the county. She has served on the Greene County Historical Society for over ten years, is one of the founding members of the “Friends of Rippey” community betterment committee, she founded the Greene County Reads program, served as secretary on the Thomas Jefferson Gardens Board, was on the East Greene School Board and she has portrayed the first white female settler in the county-Mary Davis-at several fifth grade presentations. She currently serves as treasurer of the newly formed group called the Greene County Singers.

She has also written several successful grants such as the Vision Iowa grant for Rippey’s library and community room, along with the Galloping Goose bike trail and many others.

The former nurse has also served as the president of the Iowa Public Health Association Board, was a member of the Iowa Nurses’ Association State Board and Senator Harkin’s Nurse Advisory Board. She was also the recipient of the Lillian Wald Award for outstanding nurse in Iowa in public health.

A public ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, May 1st in the courthouse at 3pm with a reception to follow.
