The young 2016 soccer season has already had it’s fair share of cold temperatures and strong winds, both of which are far cries from favorable soccer weather. While the cold temperatures can significantly impact a soccer team, it is the strong winds that seem to be the biggest concern to each teams practice and game action.
Just as championship caliber teams do, each team desiring a state tournament appearance must be able to shake off the strong winds just like any other obstacle. That’s exactly the mindset that ADM/Van Meter girls soccer head coach Kelsey Gaffney firmly believes in. Coach Gaffney told Raccoon Valley Radio that her girls soccer team will have to learn how to play within the elements by practicing in the elements.
“The girls are going to have to learn to play with the win. Seems like it will be a windy spring. We’ve still got to go out and practice with some shooting in the wind and get used to playing against the wind,” stated coach Gaffney.
After starting 2-0 on the young season, coach Gaffney and her Lady Tiger soccer team moved two spots up in the latest rankings; now sitting at 12th in all of class 2A. They look to keep the winning steak going tomorrow night as they take on Norwalk at Island Park for a 7:00 pm match up.
