The Guthrie Center City Council met Monday night.

The Council received a department report from Public Works Director Bob Secoy who says his staff is preparing for spring and summer work by getting lawnmowers and other equipment ready and fixing up the little league field. Several new pieces of equipment at the field, including a four-foot tall chain link outfield fence will be added in the near future.

Additionally, the Council voted to let the farmer’s market use the future City Hall parking lot as long as vendors provide proof of insurance.

Plus, the Council reviewed results of the State Audit. While no major violations were found, the State Auditor’s office noted that more segregation of duties inside of City Hall would be beneficial, plus it was recommended for the City to no longer donate public funds to public or private enterprises that don’t have a recognized statement of public purpose, including After Prom, the Chamber of Commerce and Guthrie Center Activity Center.

Plus, the Council met with resident Jesse West to discuss his request of removing a ‘no parking’ sign near his residence on 4th Street. West says the sign is an inconvenience to him and neighbors by eliminating  much legal street parking. The Council reiterated that they have spent over a year working to fix parking issues on 4th Street and at this point believe the current arrangement is the best solution for residents in that neighborhood.
