Greene County sent its high school boys’ track & field squad to Saydel HS on the northeast side of Des Moines on Thursday. The Rams were eleventh among 14 teams and won two events, both by seniors. Max Neese won the 200 meter dash in 23.42 seconds and Daric Whipple was first in the 400 meter low hurdles in 58.26 seconds. Neese was also second in the 100 in 11.68 seconds.
Neese and Whipple were joined by senior Ethan Woodruff and junior Nick Schroeder in the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3:35.68, by far a season best, which was good for third place.
On the downside, the Rams did not score a single point in any of the four field events.
Madrid won’ the team title with 185 points and North Polk (Alleman) was second at 133. Gilbert had 98.5 with Roland-Story (Story City) at 80, Nevada 64, Oskaloosa 57.5, Bondurant-Farrar 52, Colfx-Mingo 50, Pleasantville 47.5, Balllard (Huxley) 47, Greene County 39, Des Moines East 34.5, and 24 points for both Panorama and Saydel.
