DemocraticLogoEarlier this month, the Democratic Party of Greene County held their county convention.

Chair Dale Hanaman was very pleased with the turnout. Of the 65 delegates and alternates, 62 were present with an additional ten people observing. Out of 62 voting delegates, 32 supported Bernie Sanders and 30 supported Hillary Clinton. The delegate selection was evenly split, two for each of the presidential candidates for the district and state conventions.

Those selected as the delegates to represent Sanders are Ian McElderry of Jefferson and Ashley Kellogg of Grand Junction. The delegates for Clinton are Ted Herrick and Jerry Roberts, both of Jefferson. There were ten people who are alternates for Sanders and four for Clinton.

With the district convention in Ames this year, Hanaman is hoping to get lots of Greene County representation from the district level to go onto the state convention.

“Because it’s close enough for us in Greene County, it will be easy for us to get there, so we try to send as many alternates to that meeting as possible. They can fill in other places that are not filled in by other counties.”

The district convention will be at Ames High School on Saturday, April 30th.
