A program that was started one and a half years ago was discontinued by the Greene County School Board at last week’s meeting.
The sports shuttles were implemented to give students rides home from Jefferson to Scranton, Grand Junction and Rippey after any sports practices that were after school. Superintendent Tim Christensen says the Board’s decision was due to low student participation compared to district expenses.
“In looking at those shuttles headed to Scranton, we’re averaging about one and half kids a night and into Grand Junction and Rippey, we’re averaging two kids. Just looking at that, we’ve got two drivers committed to that, and driver’s salary and wear and tear on vehicles, the decision by Board was to discontinue those shuttles.”
The change is effective immediately and the service will not be offered for the spring sports season.
