Jefferson Police BadgeThe Jefferson Police Department recently released their 2015 report.

The department set a record for responding to the most calls for service in 2014, but they broke that record again last year. The department saw an 11 percent increase from 3,154 in 2014 to 3,549 in 2015.

Public service calls remain the bulk of cases that the department handles at 52 percent, or 1,852 calls. Some of the categories are animal-related, assisting other agencies, business alarm activations and filing missing person reports, plus several others. Almost every category saw increase from 2014, with exception to fire-related calls dropped from 37 in 2014 to just 20 in 2015.

Criminal calls saw no change from 2014 to 2015 at 35 percent, or 1,247 calls. The bulk of those calls were from theft with 186, harassment with 167 and trespassing at 102. Drug-related calls increased over 2014 from 26 to 53 in 2015. OWI’s decreased to 18 in 2015 from 28 in 2014.

Traffic calls made up 13 percent for the year at 451 up from 350 in 2014. All categories saw steady increases including property and personal injury accidents, to parking and hit and run accidents.
