Compared to a mild winter last year this season has been more difficult for public works crews in Perry.
Fortunately, Public Works Director Jack Butler says they haven’t had to deal with too much overtime for employees who plow the streets as only a few of the snowfalls happened during the weekend.
In terms of material, Deputy Public Works Director Josh Wuebker says they should make it through the season with what they have on hand.
“We started the year with about 500 ton of salt and about 400 ton of sand. We actually haven’t gotten into our sand yet this year. We’ve been able to use just salt, which it really works fast it’s just more expensive but the plus side is the clean up with it comes to spring and you’re doing the street cleaning. We’ve probably got 150 ton left, we probably used about 350 ton (of salt). It’s just these little snows that take so much material to burn the snow off the roads. They’re kind of a nuisance more than anything.”
As of now, there’s no more snow in the immediate forecast.
