The Perry boys basketball team will begin their postseason run tonight in Adel when they take on Dallas Center Grimes in a 6:30 Class 3A District battle. The Mustangs edged Perry back in December 67-62 in a non-conference game.
“We are both different teams from that first time we played,” added Perry Head Coach Ned Menke. “They have guys that are playing now that weren’t in the rotation earlier and the same can be said for us. They mix up their defensive looks so well. They can throw 5 or 6 different defenses at you in the course of the game. Hopefully we will be prepared and ready to play.”
DCG has dropped 6 of their last 9 games entering the post season but a brutal end of season schedule at a lot to do with that.
There might be some extra motivation for the Perry team as well tonight as they will be out to avenge a heartbreaking sub-state final overtime loss last season to the Mustangs. The loss denied Perry their first trip to state since 1988. “The guys really haven’t talked a lot about that game last year. It’s a completely different team and we’re ready to focus on this season. Sure, that loss last year stung but it is in the past. We have to take care of business tonight.”
