Jefferson Matters: Main Street is looking for nominations for the next historical plaque for the downtown square.
Program Director Peg Raney says through their fundraising efforts from last September’s historical plaque walk in conjunction with the Greene County Historical Society, JMMS is looking to add another plaque to the ten that are already on the lamp posts around the square.
The criteria for a nominee is that the person must be deceased for at least 25 years or an event must be at least 25 years old. Raney talks about the details of how they will select the next nominee to be on a plaque.
“In September, along with the historical society again, we’ll have another plaque walk with as many nominees as we can (get). And then those that attend that have a chance to vote who should be the next one as we receive funds for that.”
Nomination forms are available at the Main Street office or on their website at jeffersonmatters.org.
Deadline to submit nominations is by June 30th.
