The Greene County School Board met Wednesday night in regular session.
The Board decided to no longer offer the sports shuttle system. Due to low numbers of students being transported to neighboring communities in the district, the Board determined that it was not feasible to continue to offer the service.
The Board tabled their decision for the 2016-17 school calendar, due to more information needed before a final version could be considered. The Board also tabled their decision about renewing an agreement with the Greene County Fair Board to continue to rent space on the fairgrounds for school buses. Superintendent Tim Christensen says the Board wants to keep their options open.
“They wanted myself and Wayne Hougham (Transportation Director) to meet with the Fair Board again (and) have some conversation to take a look at whether we could do a year-to-year lease or what that might be. And we’re also going to investigate the possibility of building our own bus barn facility and not sure what that looks like yet.”
In light of building their own bus barn, the Board approved to hold their allocated funds from Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation to possibly use on the project. The Board then approved the application request for the modified supplemental growth for the dropout/at risk program and identifying Unger Insurance as the agent for the district’s property and liability insurance.
Finally, the Board heard a report on the trimester system for the district.
