Greene County students have been an integral part of the boys’ swimming program at Boone High School over the years, and that tradition continues this season. Most notably, junior Nick Schroeder and senior Ethan Woodruff have helped the Toreador varsity; Woodruff mainly on relays, and Schroeder both as a relay swimmer and individually.

A check of the website quikstatsiowa shows Schroeder in the top 10 in the state as of Feb. 1 in both the 50 yard and 100 yard freestyle races. Schroeder ranks seventh in the 50 in 21.78 seconds and is ninth in the 100 at 48.02. Both are faster than he swam those distances all of last year, and both are the fastest times among swimmers assigned to the Feb. 6 district meet in Ft. Dodge. Boone and Ft. Dodge will be joined at the district by Valley of West Des Moines, Storm Lake, Spencer, Sioux City, Carroll, and Ames.
