The CMB girls and Greene County boys were Heart of Iowa Activities Conference high school basketball winners in Baxter on Tuesday night on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The scores of the two games were an identical 45-34.

Coach Dean Lyons girls have dropped 10 games in a row and are 2-12 overall and 2-8 in the conference, while CMB snapped an eight game losing streak. The Raiders improved to 2-12 and they are now 1-9 in HOIAC contests. Carter Larson scored 14 points, Mikayla Eslinger 12, and Sydney Ziesman 10 for CMB. Laurin Lyons, Kenna Marquardt, and Sunny Mobley each had seven for Greene County.

The third quarter was the deciding stanza in the girls’ game. The contest was titled 9-9 after one quarter, and 16-16 at halftime. Larson scored 10 points in the third quarter, a period in which the home team put 18 points on the board, while the Rams scored just six. Greene County held a 12-11 scoring advantage in the final eight minutes. Cold shooting (9 of 49) plagued Greene County.

On the boys’ side, leading scorer Trey Tucker and his 20 points per game average missed the game vs. CMB due to illness, and it took a while for the Greene County offense to find its footing. The Rams trailed 7-5 after one quarter and were down 19-17 at halftime. The Rams held a 28-15 advantage on the scoreboard in the second half. The final margin was the largest of the game for Coach Jeramie Hinote’s team, which improved to 5-8 overall and 4-5 in the conference. CMB fell to 2-10 on the season and 2-8 in the HOIAC. The Rams swept the two-game season series with the Raiders for the second straight season.

The Rams had balanced scoring with 10 points from senior Max Neese, and nine each by senior Tyler Beger and freshman Trey Hinote.

The Greene County teams host South Hamilton (Jewell) on Friday, Jan. 22 in the middle school gym in Jefferson on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 and the boys to follow.
