The Guthrie County Sheriff’s office has taken the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division Fund’s pledge to keep tobacco, nicotine and vapor products out of the hands of local youth.
Since 2000, the I-Pledge has worked with local law enforcement and retailers to reduce products being illegally sold to minors.
As part of the pledge, deputies and reserve officers will be performing compliance checks on local establishments. Underage consumers, supervised by law enforcement, will enter retailers and attempt to buy tobacco or vapor products. Fines of $100 will be assessed for a first time offense of illegal sale. Fines increase to $250 for a second offense and $500 for a third offense.
