Shop With A CopSaturday was a day filled with generosity and holiday cheer in Jefferson.

Volunteers helped serve 180 families food baskets from New Opportunities and Adapt-A-Family of Greene County. Organizer Sherry Graven has a strong family involvement with Adapt-A-Family and tells Raccoon Valley Radio that she’s appreciative of the community support every year.

“We are overwhelmed, really overwhelmed with all the money that we’ve got. It’s been wonderful and we appreciate all the donations. We take donations throughout the year and it takes a lot of money to feed 180 families, so we are very, very thankful.”Holiday Food Baskets pic 1

It was also the first-ever Shop With A Cop program, where officers with the Greene County Peace Officers Association went out with ten kids and purchased gifts for them and their family members. President Jack Williams was pleased with the experience.

“I think it went really well. It went a lot faster than we thought it would. They seemed to already have it planned out on what they wanted. It was a great time and it seemed like all the officers enjoyed it just as much as the kids did.”

Santa and Mrs. Claus came into Jefferson in a Scranton Manufacturing garbage truck to the Masonic Lodge, where kids got their pictures taken for free with Santa.
