DSCN3298Greene County students and staff honored area veterans yesterday with special programs.

High School Student Council President Wade Wuebker led the high school program in the auditorium.  Following the band performing “America, the Beautiful” and some of the choir students singing the National Anthem, Wuebker delivered a poem recognizing the importance of our military service men and women.  He tells Raccoon Valley Radio what Veterans Day means to him.

“I think it’s just a good way to think about all the things the fellow soldiers and people that have fought for our country, what they’ve done and it’s a good way for us American citizens to reflect on that and realize how good we really have it.”

Other parts of the program included guest speaker and National Guard Staff Sergeant Chad Morman, a powerpoint presentation and some of the veterans took a couple of minutes to speak to the students.  Wuebker explains the importance of having a special program at the high school every year on Veterans Day.

“It was good for our school, student council and our community to give back to those that have fought for our American freedoms.  So, it was a good way to express our gratitude and our feelings that we have towards them.”

In the afternoon, veterans were treated to another program at the intermediate school in Grand Junction.  Students heard from Bob Glenn, who went on a Freedom Flight to Washington, D.C. this past September.  Some students also read a poem, while others played TAPS to close the program.
