WinterWeatherAwarednessDayLOGOAlthough the weather doesn’t feel like it, today is Winter Weather Awareness Day.

Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf says now is the time to pack your car with supplies and get ready for when the temperature plummets and snow falls. “Things to keep in your car are things to keep you warm, of course. Dry clothes are good. If you get out and try to dig yourself out of the snow, you’re going to get all cold and wet. A change of dry clothes is important. Blankets are important to have as well. Don’t forget your emergency kit with things like canned fruit and granola bars. You can keep a bucket of sand or kitty litter in your trunk, to help with traction. Plus, keep a brightly colored piece of cloth or ribbon to tie to your antenna to increase visibility and draw attention if you go off the road and get stranded.”

Kempf will provide more winter weather preparation tips today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
