Raking leaves can sometimes be a pain to do, but luckily the weather was near perfect for hundreds of students to pitch in and help rake several yards in Greene County Tuesday.
High school instructor and organizer Teresa Green says they had close to 850 students and volunteers rake and haul away leaves on 132 lawns. The 19th annual event is a community service project for students to give back to all those who support the school district. She would like to thank all the people involved in the event.
“We have a lot of community support with our City (of Jefferson), our community volunteers, our Rotary volunteers, our school provided buses (and) people to help move the leaves away. It was just a huge endeavor by our entire community to get the 132 yards raked.”
Students and volunteers were also treated to 42 cases of donated bottled water from Fareway and 75 dozen doughnuts from Bunker’s Dunkers.
The goal is to rake all of the lawns within three and a half hours, while providing students with teamwork experience and working efficiently to get a job done.
