Panorama high school students recently took a tour around Perry’s Des Moines Area Community College Van Kirk Career Academy. Guidance Counselor Chris Webner says 28 students were able to learn about the Automotive Techology, Criminal Justice, Health Occupations and Welding programs offered at the academy. Students also visited McKee Automotive, the Perry Police Station, Greene County Hospital and the Perry Foundry. Beginning this spring, Panorama sophomores and juniors will have the opportunity to register for year-long programs at the career academy.

The expected buyer of Panora’s former Cargill plant has been identified. The Iowa Area Development Group (IADG) says Nutriom LLC, of Lacy, Washington is interested in turning the facility into an egg-processing plant. The business would create approximately 15 new local jobs.
IADG representatives and the City of Panora continue to work on a financial package for the project, which could include the establishment of a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district to provide funds for further expansion.
