Some years a football team may have a softer schedule than other years. That wasn’t the case for the Greene County Rams in 2015 as seven of the nine opponents qualified for the playoffs. Four of the seven advanced from Wednesday’s first round to the Nov. 2 second round.

Greene County had wins over Class 1A South Central Calhoun (Lake City) and 2A Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) while losing to 3A qualifiers Algona, Carroll, Creston, Humboldt, and Webster City. The seven combined to go 4-3 in Wednesday’s opening playoff round with Webster City, Carroll, Creston, and South Central Calhoun winning. WC is ranked third and 10-0 on the season. The Rams lost to the Lynx in a wild 36-34 game. Greene County led Creston late in their meeting with the Panthers before falling 36-32. The Rams led Carroll last Friday at halftime 7-0 before dropping a 28-13 decision, and Coach Dean Lansman’s team fell at Humboldt 14-0 without standout quarterback Daric Whipple, who missed that game due to illness.
