A bus versus semi accident resulted in only minor injuries and two totaled vehicles in Greene County this afternoon.
Greene County Sheriff Steve Haupert says he and a deputy responded to the crash at 12:11pm at 280th Street and I Avenue, west of Jefferson. A Greene County school bus driver was heading east on 280th Street, after dropping off her last student. She was attempting to cross the uncontrolled intersection at I Avenue when a northbound semi tractor trailer hit the rear tires of the bus, pushing both vehicles into the northwest ditch. The bus slid and tipped over, ending up on its passenger side.
No students were inside the bus at the time of the accident and both drivers suffered minor injuries. The bus driver, Toresa Beyers of Churdan was taken to the Greene County Medical Center for treatment and was cited for failure to yield to the right. Per school employee policy, she is also subject a drug test. The semi driver, Matthew Hofbauger of Coon Rapids was cited for driving with a suspended license and not having a valid license.
Both the semi, which is owned by Gary Fell, and the school bus were considered to be total losses.
