Tonight there will be several Halloween festivities for children and families to participate in Jefferson.

The Greene County Community Center kicks off the evening with Halloween games, pumpkin decorating and kids can receive candy from 4 to 5pm.  Check-ins are at 3:45pm.

Then, from 5 to 7pm, will be a skit from the book “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Book?” by Lauren Child in the basement of the Jefferson Library.  Youth can also receive candy and check out other activities in the children’s department.

Also from 5 to 7 is when families can trick-or-treat around the square, sponsored by the Greene County Chamber.  Tourism and Events Coordinator Angie Pedersen says it’s a great opportunity for all Chamber members to hand out candy to children.

“All of our Chamber members are encouraged to get their candy and get downtown, whether your (business is) on the square or not.  Get out there and get that candy out to those kids.  And this year there’s not a fee for members to participate, just come on down.”

Finally, a new event called the “Tricky Trick Contest” will be in the Greene County Courthouse rotunda where participants will have 30-seconds to show their best “trick” and win prizes.  Registration begins at 6:30, with the competition to start at 6:45.

All activities are free for families and it all takes place this evening.
