One thing is certain when the high school football playoffs get under way around the state tonight; Class 3A District 2 will have at least one team advance to the second round. That’s because district champion and undefeated Webster City hosts the fourth place team, Humboldt, and the winner moves on. Carroll High was second in the district and the Tigers host Glenwood, while Algona, the third place team in the district, plays Ballard in Huxley.

Greene County missed the playoffs for the first time in the last seven seasons after going 4-5 overall and 2-4 in district play. The Rams were in every game, but lost 36-34 to third rated WC, fell 35-28 at Algona after leading 21-13 at intermission, lost 28-13 to Carroll after leading 7-0 at the half, and played without standout quarterback Daric Whipple at Humboldt and lost 14-0.

The second round of the football playoffs is Monday, Nov. 2.
