A Jefferson man faces more than a dozen charges after stealing a vehicle and leading several agencies on a high speed chase late Monday.

According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s office, the Jefferson Police Department received a call about a 2004 Ford Super Duty truck being stolen from the Jefferson Hy-Vee parking lot around 9pm Monday.  Shortly after 11:30pm, the Perry Police Department located the truck at the a local gas station.  When officers tried to make contact with the driver he led them on a chase eastbound on Highway 141 and then south on Highway 169.

Dallas County Sheriff’s deputies set up stop sticks in the 21000 block of the highway, which flattened the tires of the stolen truck.  The vehicle continued a short distance before driving into the ditch.  33 year-old Andrew Jensen then ran into a field away from the deputies.  After a foot chase, officers were able to take Jensen into custody.  He was taken to the hospital for medical clearance and then transported to the Dallas County jail.

As a result the Dallas County Sheriff’s office has charged Jensen with Operating a Vehicle without Owners Consent (Aggravated Misdemeanor), Felon in Possession of a Firearm (Class D Felony) and Interference with Official Acts (Simple Misdemeanor).

The Perry Police Department has charged him with Driving while Revoked, Driving Under Suspension, Eluding, Theft 5th, Fail to use Headlamps, Fail to Obey Traffic Control Device (2 counts), Failure to Obey Stop Sign, Failure to Obey Yield Sign, Failure to Give Signal (2 counts), Speeding (2 counts), Driving on the Wrong Side of Highway (2 counts).

The Jefferson Police Department additionally charged Jensen with a Class C Felony for first degree theft and a serious misdemeanor for driving while license denied or revoked.

The case remains under investigation and additional charges could be filed.
