If you can’t make it to a Tiger athletic event, fine arts activity or other extracurricular happening, have no fear: ADM activities director Reece Satre regularly takes to Twitter to keep the Tiger faithful informed.
After taking the job in August 2014, Satre knew he needed a way to connect with a lot of people in an efficient way for score updates, student accomplishments and more. And so he utilized a medium he had no experience with, and the ADM Activities Twitter account (@admactivities) was born.
“To be honest with you, I didn’t even have a Twitter account myself before I got here, but I knew going into the position we needed to be able to communicate on a mass level outside of just emails,” Satre said.”And having my experience coming in as a teacher, I noticed there’s a lot of kids on Twitter and that seemed to be their preferred mode of communication, they were constantly checking that and so I knew we had to go that route with Twitter.
“So we just posted it. I talked to a couple of other AD’s in the conference and around and asked how they approached Twitter from their perspective – what did they post, how did they go about covering stuff – and then just kind of melted that all together and created our Twitter account.”
As of Monday afternoon, the account had grown to 602 followers. Satre said he aims to provide news, updates and reminders, and leaves the picture-taking to parents, coaches and other administrators.
The end result has been an increased level of interest in all things ADM Activities.
“It’s just been a really great way to communicate and share what we’re doing here at ADM and expose people to all of that great things that are taking place, not just with athletics and the fine arts,” Satre said.
